Power Dialer AI in India: 5-Question Check and 7-Day Test

A power dialer AI suits three to eight reps working a long list where most calls go unanswered.

A sales rep wearing a headset works at a tidy desk with a laptop and a phone on a stand in a bright small office.

Key takeaways

  • A power dialer AI suits three to eight reps working a long list where most calls go unanswered. With warm leads that need preparation, click-to-call with every call logged does the job for less.
  • A power dialer removes the gap between calls. It does not shorten wrap-up time or fix a weak list, so measure both before you buy.
  • Auto dialer use has had to be notified to your operator in writing, in advance, since the February 2025 amendment. If your dialer counts as an application-to-person (A2P) call, you must also declare your number ranges from about 17 November 2026, 60 days after the Gazette date. Get your provider’s answer in writing.
  • For five reps, automatic dialling costs between ₹795 and ₹18,500 a month on two Indian providers’ own price pages (October 2026), both on annual plans. A seven-day test shows whether you clear the break-even.

A power dialer saves a rep the seconds between hanging up and the next ring. Whether those seconds are worth paying for depends on how the rest of the day is spent, and on automatic-dialling rules that India's telecom regulator tightened in September 2026.

That regulator is focusing on automated calling. Of the 20,591 phone-line disconnections the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recorded for commercial-communication violations in April 2026, 15,736 were business phone lines used for automated calls, according to the explanatory memorandum to its Third Amendment Regulations, 2026.

The buying decision therefore has two parts: will automatic dialling lift your team's talk time, and can you run it within the rules that now apply to automated calls? This page gives a five-question check, the monthly cost for five reps, four questions for any provider, and a seven-day test on your own call logs instead of a vendor's calls-per-hour claim.

What is a power dialer AI, and how is it different from a predictive dialer?

A power dialer is software that dials the next number on a list the moment a rep ends a call. A predictive dialer rings several numbers at once for each free rep and connects whoever answers. The "AI" in power dialer AI is a layer on top, not a different way of dialling.

That layer usually transcribes and summarises calls, detects voicemail, suggests coaching points and sometimes ranks the list. None of it makes a call connect.

Click-to-call means the rep taps to start every call.

Does a small sales team need a power dialer? Run this five-question check

A team of three to eight reps needs a power dialer when at least four of the five tests below point to one. With two or three, fix the slowest step first. With none or one, stay on click-to-call. Tests 1, 2, 3 and 5 use data you already have, and Test 4 needs a stopwatch run over a day or two.

#TestPoints to a power dialerPoints to staying
1Count the reps who dial from one shared list each day3 to 8 reps1 or 2 reps
2

Tag your last 50 leads warm or cold with the 4-tag test

30 or more cold30 or more warm
3Average dials per rep per day from your call log, last 5 working daysOver 100Under 60
4Stopwatch 20 calls per rep, from hang-up to the next ringAverage over 45 secondsAverage under 30 seconds
5Check where leads and outcomes liveOne list in a spreadsheet or customer relationship management (CRM) system, an outcome noted after every callLeads scattered across chats and notebooks

These cut-offs are our recommendation, not an industry standard. A result between the columns counts for neither side.

Test 4 is the easiest to overlook. If a dialer cuts a 45-second gap to 10, it saves about 58 minutes a day over 100 calls, but only if reps spend those minutes talking.

Why do small teams often buy a power dialer for the wrong problem?

Small teams often buy a power dialer because the gap between calls is the visible delay, while wrap-up and lists that need preparation can cost more time. A power dialer fixes only the visible one.

Two views of the same desk: cluttered with handwritten notes after a call, and tidy and ready for the next call.

A power dialer starts the next call as soon as one ends unless the provider lets you set a pause, so notes get squeezed or pushed to the evening. Measure that first as after call work, the time between a call ending and the rep being ready again.

Lists are the second trap. A power dialer works through a list in order, which suits a long list where most calls go unanswered. It suits warm leads badly, where the right order is "whoever asked most recently" and each call needs the history. It also reaches wrong numbers faster, so clean the list first.

Which TRAI rules apply to automatic dialling in India as of October 2026?

Under TRAI’s Third Amendment Regulations, 2026, notified on 18 September 2026, a voice call started by software without direct human dialling is an application-to-person (A2P) call, and the business making it must declare that use and its number ranges to its telecom provider in advance. That declaration applies 60 days after Gazette publication, about 17 November 2026 if the Gazette date is also 18 September.

A "sender" is the business making the call, and the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform is where operators record declarations. The regulation text sets four rules:

RuleWhat it saysApplies from
A2P call definition (regulation 2)A call "initiated by an application, software system, or automated platform without direct human dialling", including autodialling and robo-callsAbout 18 October 2026
Advance declaration (regulation 4)The sender declares A2P use and its number ranges to the originating operator, recorded on the DLT platform; an undeclared call is treated as unsolicited commercial communicationWritten notice: February 2025 amendment. A2P declaration: about 17 November 2026
Operator charge (regulation 35A)The receiving operator may charge the calling operator up to ₹0.05 a minute on A2P calls; 140xx and 1600xx series are exemptAbout 17 November 2026
Spam flagging (regulation 21A)Operators run AI-based detection and tell the sender of flagged numbers by SMS or emailAbout 18 October 2026

We counted the dates from 18 September 2026, the day TRAI notified the amendment. The periods run from the Gazette date, so confirm the exact day with your provider. The Second Amendment of February 2025 already required every sender to notify its operator in writing, in advance, of auto dialer use and its purpose.

Does a power dialer with a live rep on the line count as A2P?

Virtual network operators asked TRAI to exclude calls with a human agent on the line. TRAI declined because operators cannot tell from the network whether a human is on the call. Our reading: treat a dialer that places the next call itself as covered unless your provider confirms otherwise in writing. Ask any provider, SIM-based (calls over a mobile SIM card) or cloud (calls over the internet), four questions:

  1. Does my dialling count as A2P, and have you declared my number range? Pass: a written answer naming the range. Fail: no detail.
  2. Which number series do my calls use, and who bears the operator charge? Pass: the series and the payer are named. Fail: no answer.
  3. What is the per-minute rate in rupees? Pass: a rate on the quote. Fail: “usage-based” with no figure.
  4. How are lists checked against the Do Not Disturb register, and where is consent recorded? Pass: you can show it for 20 sample numbers. Fail: you cannot.

For the wider rules, see outbound calling rules, numbers and recording setups.

What does automatic dialling cost a five-rep team in India?

On two Indian providers' own price pages, automatic dialling for five reps costs between ₹795 and ₹18,500 a month as of October 2026, both billed on annual plans, a spread of more than 23 times. We are not one of the two providers priced here.

Provider and planPrice as publishedBillingAuto-dialerFive reps
MyOperator Sedan₹5,000 a month for 10 usersAnnual, upfrontNot offered on this planNot applicable
MyOperator SUV plus auto-dialer add-on₹15,000 a month for 10 users, plus ₹700 per user a monthAnnual, upfrontAdd-on, SUV and AI Team plans only₹18,500 a month, ₹2,22,000 a year
RMDialer yearly plan₹159 per user a monthAnnualIncluded₹795 a month, ₹9,540 a year

Prices exclude tax: MyOperator states that goods and services tax (GST) applies, and RMDialer adds taxes at checkout. RMDialer's calls run on your own SIM, so mobile call charges are extra. The plans differ: MyOperator includes unlimited calling for up to 10 users, while RMDialer lists a dialer with a CRM and no per-minute charge.

To judge any quote, use our own break-even model, not a published figure:

Break-even extra connected calls a month = extra monthly cost ÷ (share of connected calls that end in a sale × gross margin per sale)

Assume 2% of connected calls end in a sale and each sale earns ₹5,000 gross margin (sale price minus direct cost), so one extra connected call is worth ₹100. At ₹18,500 a month, billed annually, you need 185 extra connected calls a month: about 7 a day over 26 working days, or 1.4 per rep. At ₹795 you need about 8 a month. Replace both assumptions with your own.

How do you run a seven-day power dialer test with your own numbers?

Use your last seven days of call logs as the baseline, run the dialer for seven days on the same kind of list and hours, and compare three numbers per rep: connected calls a day, connect rate, and talk minutes per logged hour. A connected call is one answered by a person, not voicemail.

Two sales reps pin a row of seven blank cards to an office wall while one holds a printed call log.
  1. 1
    Build the baseline.

From the call log, record each rep’s dials, connected calls, talk minutes and hours logged in. Connect rate is connected calls divided by dials. If your team logs calls in the TalkEasy app, Sales Call Analytics reports call volume, answer rates, missed calls and talk time.

  2. 2
    Time the two gaps.
Stopwatch 20 calls per rep for the gap from hang-up to the next ring, and the wrap-up from hang-up to the outcome saved.
  3. 3
    Split the list.
During the same seven days, dial half with the dialer and half by hand, so list quality does not skew the result, and compare the dialer half with both the by-hand half and your baseline week. If you call in Hindi and regional languages, keep one list per language so a Tamil lead never reaches a Hindi-speaking rep.
  4. 4
Check the rules on day one.
Get written answers to the four questions above, and ask for a trial or short plan, not an annual one.
  5. 5
    Score on day eight.
Pass: connected calls per rep per day rise by at least your break-even figure (1.4 in the example), connect rate stays within 2 percentage points of baseline, talk minutes per logged hour do not fall below baseline, and wrap-up is no longer than before. Any miss is a fail. These pass marks are our recommendation, and seven days is a small sample, so repeat the test before any annual payment.

When should you stay on click-to-call, and what do we offer?

Stay on click-to-call when most leads are warm, you have one or two callers, or the five-question check scores one or none. On two or three, fix the slowest step and retest. A rep who taps each call, with every call logged and an outcome saved, gets most of the benefit without paying for automatic dialling or taking on A2P duties.

Our Business Dialer gives your team rep-started click-to-call, call logging and call recording. Pro costs ₹999 + GST a month as of October 2026, with three hours of talktime (the minutes you can call) a day. If the AI layer is what you want, AI Call Summaries give transcripts and summaries for each call without automatic dialling.

Frequently asked questions

An auto dialer is any software that places calls without the rep typing the number. A power dialer is one kind: it dials one number per rep, after the previous call ends.
It can. TRAI’s September 2026 amendment brings AI-based spam detection into the formal rules, and undeclared A2P calls are treated as unsolicited commercial communication. According to IndiaLaw, repeat violations escalate from KYC re-verification to line suspension and, in the end, disconnection and a one-year blacklist.
No. A power dialer connects a human rep to each answered call, and the AI helps around it. An AI calling agent speaks to the lead itself. Under TRAI's 2026 definition both can count as A2P calls, so declare both to your provider.
Choose a provider with a shorter term or a trial. As of October 2026, RMDialer lists a three-month plan at ₹249 per user a month, ₹1,245 a month for five reps, and a free three-day trial, which is shorter than the seven-day test. MyOperator bills annually upfront but states a 30-day full refund policy on its pricing page.
Yes, if the dialer places calls automatically. Since February 2025, a sender must notify its operator in writing, in advance, of auto-dialer use and its purpose. From about 17 November 2026, A2P calls must also be declared with their number ranges.
Over about 100 dials per rep per day points to a power dialer, and under about 60 points to staying on click-to-call. Confirm both with the seven-day test.
